winter is dead

“She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
‘Winter is dead.’”

A.A. Milne, When We Were Very Young

As far as I’m concerned, this week was the first week of spring.  I got to wear my beloved flip flops (which have traveled with me around the world).  I got to go to the Brookfield Zoo with my mom and brother.  And I went on my first picnic of the season with my former upstairs neighbor (who happens to be pretty awesome, which is why we still hang out, even though he moved out of town).

So, in celebration of spring, please enjoy these beautiful photos of flowers taken several weeks ago at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago.  (Enjoy their Spring Flower Show through May 10.)

  1. It gets warmer a little quicker where I live, but the flowers don’t stay in bloom as long as they do up north. Oh, how I miss the windy city.
